Papa John’s Revs Up Double XL with Leah Pritchett

Papa John’s has launched a television spot featuring dragster driver, Leah Pritchett, alongside the brand’s limited-edition Double XL pizza.

Papa John’s has released a television spot starring Leah Pritchett. The advert supports the brand’s sponsorship of the dragster driver and her team, Don Schumacher Racing, as well as spotlights the limited-time Double XL pizza deal launched this week.

The 30-second film sees the athlete share how her pursuit for better on the track parallels the fast food Founder’s own belief in a better pizza. The commercial runs on cable sports and entertainment outlets including ESPN, MLB Network, TBS, and others.

The creative captures the new national pizza box and the racer’s gold dragster, alongside the pizza-maker’s 1971 Camaro Z28, which he bought at age 15, and eventually sold to both keep his father’s tavern from going bankrupt and open his first Papa John’s outlet.

In 2009, he was reunited with his car and fit it for racing. This season, Pritchett has won three races: Phoenix, Pomona, and Houston. She holds the current NHRA Top Fuel world record at 3.658 seconds—the quickest run in history and sits in second in the standings.

The two have also created the Charity Challenge Series throughout the NHRA season, where Papa John races his gold Camaro Z28 down the strip against Pritchett in a Dodge Challenger. Said series has so far raised $40,000 for the Infinite Hero Foundation.

Said non-profit drives awareness and provides resources to combat the mental and physical issues returning military heroes and their families may face. The next challenge race will be on 8 July at the Fallen Patriots via Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois.

Meanwhile, the Double XL offers 10 big slices topped with extra-large Italian sausage, deli-style pepperoni, and an added layer of traditional Italian sausage piled on sixteen inches of hand-tossed crust with mozzarella cheese. The pizza promotion ends on 23 July.

“When I met Leah, I admired her hard work and determination from the get go. She had some burn marks on her forearms from working on the clutch of her Top Fuel dragster,” said John H. Schnatter, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Papa John’s.

“Back when I started making pizzas, I had oven burns on my arms all the time. We did what we had to do to get by because we were doing something we loved. Leah is devoted to pursuing her dream like I am. We both share an unrelenting drive to always get better.”
