Goodwood Festival of Speed 2017

As the world’s largest car event, the Goodwood Festival of Speed is an annual hill climb featuring historic motor racing vehicles held in the grounds of Goodwood House, West Sussex, England in late June/early July. The event is scheduled to avoid clashing with the Formula One season, enabling fans to see F1 machines (and this year, founder Bernie Ecclestone) as well as cars and motorbikes from motor racing history climb the hill.

The banner for the just-wrapped 2017 festival (June 29-July 2): “Peaks of Performance: Motorsport’s Game-Changers” with the theme: “Each year we find a new way of exploring the thrilling past, present and future of the automotive world. This year, we’ll be celebrating racing machines that were so fast, powerful, expensive or complicated that the rules had to be changed to rein them in. These are the high-watermarks of motorsport; cars and motorcycles that left an indelible mark on the history of the sport.”

Goodwood got the checkered flag on Sunday as the annual celebration of automotive speed and capability wrapped following the debut of some stunning high performance cars—and antique cars to remind everyone how automotive history was made.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed hill climb attracts historic and new motor racing vehicles and enthusiasts to the grounds of Goodwood House in West Sussex. Top-line, performance-based automotive brands use it as one of their most important showcases of the year.

For example, at Goodwood 2017 Porsche debuted its 700-metric-horsepower 911 GT2 RS speedster, which TopGear.com promptly called “mad,” salivating over the fact that the car could be “the fastest 911 of all time.”

Also, Aston Martin revealed upgrades to its Vantage AMR Pro track-only supercar in a package.

But lest Goodwood fans get too excited about the new version, Aston Martin made it clear that the ultimate package will be available only to the owners of the 24 Vulcans sold by the automaker who also have received race-driving instruction from the brand.

It was also honored to have F1 founder Bernie Ecclestone choose its brand for his honorary hilltop climb.

Meanwhile, Rolls-Royce wowed fans by unveiling a Black Badge variant of its popular Dawn drop-top, offering more power without sacrificing the velvety smooth, patented Rolls-Royce ride.

It also showcased the $13 million bespoke Sweptail, billed as the world’s most expensive car ever made.

Range Rover also featured the Velar:
