Toronto was honored (or honoured, as the case may be) to become the third hub for Uber’s driverless tech research back in May. In advance of the Advanced Technologies Group opening there, Toronto will also be one of the launch sites for Uber Canada’s delivery pilot with another American import: McDonald’s.
McDelivery with UberEATS launched today in Canada in a handful of cities: Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA); Montreal; Ottawa; and Edmonton. Residents in those cities can now order McDonald’s menu items right to them, when they want it, where they want it from the UberEATS app, which is free to download and is available on Apple and Android devices.
McDelivery with UberEATS is currently available in 187 restaurants across Canada, which will expand to more than 250 restaurants, including in Calgary, by September. Part of an aggressive global launch strategy, McDelivery with UberEATS follows local launches in the US, Australia, Poland, the Netherlands and the UK.
By downloading the UberEATS app, guests can order from McDonald’s menu (everything except for soft serve ice cream cones) with the simple tap of a button – enabling even more convenience and choice. Guests will pay the same price for menu items as they would at their local restaurants, with UberEATS fees applicable to each order.
The co-branding partnership promotes both brands as being on the leading edge of innovation. McDonald’s Canada and UberEATS share a commitment and passion for guest experience with a continued investment in new technology and guest convenience.
The initiative is the latest innovation for McDonald’s, which, along with its franchisees, has been focusing on accelerating growth by evolving the guest experience in restaurants in Canada and around the world.
“We are excited to offer McDelivery on UberEATS because it gives our guests more choices and convenience to enjoy McDonald’s whenever and wherever they want,” said Dave Rogers, SVP, National Operations, McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada Limited. “We look forward to learning from this launch as we continue to expand McDelivery into more markets across the country.”
“With UberEATS, you can get the food you want, where you want it, delivered at Uber speed. We’re thrilled to welcome McDonald’s to the UberEATS app to give Canadians easy access to their McDonald’s favourites at the tap of a button,” said Ian Black, Regional GM of UberEATS. “We know that Canadians frequently search for McDonald’s in the UberEATS app, so we’re excited to expand our reach and deliver what they’ve been craving.”
UberEATS McDelivery with McDonald’s also just launched in the UK, where residents in 22 locations are now able to order McDonald’s from the comfort of their home using the UberEATS app. The UK is a more competitive market for deliveries than Canada, with Just-Eat, Deliveroo and Amazon Prime Now already competing for consumers’ attention.
Elsewhere in Europe, McDelivery with UberEATS is now available in Poland and the Netherlands ( as of June 1). Further afield, McDonald’s Australia also launched McDelivery with UberEATS at the end of June. It’s available from more than 80 restaurants across Australia, including 15 just in Sydney.
In their home market, McDelivery with UberEATS launched across America in May, with more than 1,000 restaurants in Los Angeles, Chicago, Phoenix and Columbus offering the option, with more US markets now being added. In January, McDonald’s and UberEATS began testing McDelivery at 200 locations in Florida.
“Whether you are at home or at the park, UberEATS has what you’re craving ready to be delivered at the tap of a button,” said Jason Droege, Head of UberEverything, about the US launch. “We are thrilled to expand our partnership with McDonald’s in the U.S. to bring the ease and reliability of Uber’s technology to deliver customer’s favorite menu items.”
Globally, McDonald’s is already one of the largest providers of delivered food in the world and has over two decades of experience in delivery. Last year, McDonald’s saw nearly $1 billion in delivery sales across both company and franchise restaurants. The company’s most developed delivery markets are in Asia and the Middle East, where top delivery restaurants generate up to 40% of their sales from delivery.
“McDonald’s restaurant footprint, combined with the cutting-edge innovation of the UberEATS platform, positions us well to meet the consumer demand for fast and reliable delivery – making this an ideal partnership,” Global CEO Steve Easterbrook said.
