The 91st annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade features dozens of brands, returning and new, including the debut of balloons such as Disney’s Olaf from the movie “Frozen” and Chase from the TV cartoon Paw Patrol along with a rebooted Grinch of Dr. Seuss fame.

This year sees 17 giant character balloons; 28 legacy balloons, balloonicles, balloonheads and trycaloons; 26 floats (including new-this-year Delta Airlines and a massive Green Giant, which caught the eye of Foursquare’s Dennis Crowley); 1,100 cheerleaders and dancers; more than 1,000 clowns; 12 marching bands; and six performance groups.

Gwen Stefani, Smokey Robinson, Jimmy Fallon, The Roots, Flo Rida, Wyclef Jean and Sabrina Carpenter were among the stars celebrating, along with performances from the casts of Broadway’s “Anastasia,” ”Dear Evan Hansen” and “SpongeBob SquarePants,” plus a dozen marching bands.

Airing one-time only, during the broadcast of The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade TV broadcast on NBC, Verizon paid tribute to first responders:

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is one of the biggest cultural moments of the year and a unique family viewing experience that reaches people of all ages.

This is the second year in a row Verizon has partnered with NBCUniversal and Macy’s to feature new innovations in broadcast and digital technology during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, including sponsoring a live-stream of the parade live on YouTube.

According to Verizon, it “has a strong relationship with first responders, since many of them choose the Verizon network due to its reliability even under extreme conditions. Verizon is committed to supporting them in return, and there’s no more appropriate day to thank them for what they do than on Thanksgiving.”
