Every automaker is trying to figure out how to get itself to the era of the self-driving car. In the meantime, they’re trying to make the traditional driving experience ever more engaging.

That’s why Mercedes-Benz—which has emerged as a leader in rethinking the interior space in automobiles as the autonomous driving era nears—will make the world premiere of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) on January 9th, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

CES is a key venue for unveiling automotive advances, ranging from electric vehicle announcements like the Chevrolet Bolt in 2016 to demonstrating autonomous vehicle (AV) capabilities by Audi.

Teasing its CES 2018 unveiling, Mercedes-Benz says that MBUX features AI-based technology and an “intuitive” operating system so that it can “usher in a new era of infotainment and Mercedes me connectivity. MBUX will be available as standard equipment as early as next year on some models.”

In addition to launching and detailing MBUX at CES, Mercedes-Benz will display the Concept EQA, smart vision EQ fortwo and the Mercedes-AMG Project ONE show cars. Its Intelligent World Drive vehicle, based on the S-Class sedan, is an autonomous vehicle that has been tested in real-world conditions on all five continents.

The Concept EQA, meanwhile, is Mercedes-Benz’s first all-electric compact concept vehicle. To celebrate this technological breakthrough, Mercedes-Benz partnered the car with an equally of-the-future musician (Maika Loubté) and city (Tokyo) to create a futuristic video.

The collaboration sees Loubté explore Tokyo in search of unique sounds to help her create new music. On her creative journey, she discovers a city in constant flux with orchestral potential that adds to her already futuristic sound.

And in another futuristic video, Mercedes-Benz imagines Christmas in the year 2038. The good news: not much has changed. The bad news: not much has changed.

The description: Mercedes-Benz and EQ show Christmas isn’t the only thing just around the corner. The future is too – with a fascinating vision in which all-electric, autonomously driving EQ models, Volocopters and drones prove that, together, we can change some things for the better. Some people can’t get enough of Christmas. Others can. But Mercedes-Benz and EQ still wish you Happy Holidays. Also in the future. #futuretraditions
