Burger King campaign aims to turn the smallest team in the world into the biggest club in the online gaming world
Burger King, a fastfood chain and a sponsor of Stevenage FC in launching the #StevenageChallenge, a series of challenges for football fans that, if completed, will reward participants with menu favourites like the Whopper sandwich, Chicken Sandwich, and Chicken Fries for free through Uber Eats.
Stevenage FC is a professional association football club based in the town of Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England. The team play in League Two, the fourth tier of the English football league system. They play their home games at Broadhall Way in Stevenage.
The goal of the campaign—no pun intended—is to turn the smallest team in the real world into the biggest club in the online gaming world. The challenges range from simply scoring a goal to the nearly impossible—scoring from a corner kick, all with the new Burger King sponsored Stevenage FC shirt on.
Football and Burger King fans alike can complete the set of challenges listed at the dedicated website. All they have to do is share footage on Twitter of their great soccer feats, and in return they will get a free menu item, while delivery code supplies last.
Whether fans take on the “A Nutmeg for Nuggets” or “Impossible for Impossible Whopper” challenge, some have proven to be difficult, forcing fans to find other, more creative ways to complete them.
“It is almost 2020 and the Internet community is still surprising me,” said Fernando Machado, Global CMO of the Burger King brand, when he found out fans have already been sharing their new Stevenage Kit online. “The “Stevenage Challenge” is here to welcome everyone, because thanks to technology, this could be everyone’s team too” added Machado.
The Stevenage Challenge runs until October 23, 2019, in participating markets only through Uber Eats. Participants are encouraged to complete the challenge while they still can as this might be their lucky year, just like Stevenage’s.
