Merck has created a new campaign in line with its Embracing Carers platform to help carers in the UK recognise their role and get support.
Science and technology company, Merck, has launched a new campaign under its Embracing Carers movement. The main objective of the exercise is to help individuals in the United Kingdom recognise the role of the unpaid carer and reflect on access to available support and resources.
Guided by Carers UK and other similarly-driven organisations, the global Merck initiative highlights the importance of carers to society, with up to 6,000 people picking up the baton daily. The fresh effort—By Day, By Night—provides carers and organisations with information and assistance.
A staggering 6.5 million people are carers and the majority of them take a long time to recognise their role. Research shows more than half of carers in the country took over a year to recognise their caring role and nearly a quarter (24%) took over five years to recognise their role as a carer.
“We are about highlighting the needs of UK carers and beyond. Caregiving must be made a public health priority. By helping people recognise their role as a carer sooner, we hope they’ll be able to access support and resources faster,” said Belinda Byrne, Medical Director, Merck UK and Ireland.
